Update WooCommerce prices and stock from a new price list

The short answer: export your products from WooCommerce, choose Update catalog in CatalogDock, give it the supplier’s new price list and that export, and pick the fields to update. You get small CSV files with the SKU and only the values that changed; import them with “Update existing products”. Nothing is created or deleted.

The two files

  1. A fresh store export: Products → Export, with at least the columns ID, Type, SKU, Parent, Regular price, Sale price, Stock, Backorders allowed?. It tells the tool what the store holds now; an old export gives an old comparison.
  2. The new supplier price list: CSV or Excel, in the supplier’s own columns. You map its SKU, price and stock columns as in Prepare supplier file.

A real example: 8 store products, a Spanish price list

The synthetic demo of the checker: a store export of 8 products and a new price list with Spanish headers (Código → SKU, Precio → Regular price, Existencias → Stock).

DK-LAMP-02Stock 6 → 4
DK-RUG-02Regular price 289 → 299, Stock 2 → 5
DK-CUSH-02Stock 0 → 15
  • 3 products are unchanged (same price and stock), so they are not written.
  • 1 SKU of the price list (DK-NEW-01) is not in the export: it is reported, not created.
  • 1 store product (DK-BSK-01) is missing from the price list: it is reported and keeps its price and stock. It is not set to zero and not deleted.

What changes, and what does not

  • Only the fields you choose: Regular price, Sale price, Stock. Each file holds SKU and exactly the columns it updates.
  • Descriptions, images, categories, attributes and reviews are not written.
  • An empty cell in the price list keeps the current value. Only Sale price has an option to clear it. A 0 is a value, not an empty cell.
  • Stock management and backorder settings are not switched: a variation whose stock is managed on the parent is reported, not changed.

Fixed automatically

  • Price formats such as 1 299,50 are normalized by the mapping rules you choose.

Reported for you to decide

  • SKUs not found in the export, SKUs that match only when letter case is ignored, duplicate SKUs, and sale prices not lower than the regular price.

Needs data from your store

  • Everything about the store comes from the export you supply. The free WordPress plugin reads the current catalog of your store directly instead.

Why several files, and how to import them

The importer writes every column of a file into every product of that file, so a product whose stock did not change must not be in a file with a Stock column. That is why there is one file per set of changed fields. Import each file with Products → Import and “Update existing products” ticked; the ZIP also has the files as parts of up to 500 records, with the order to import them.

Limits

  • The comparison is only as current as the export: export again right before each update.
  • An export without a column (for example no Sale price) cannot be used to update that field: the page says which columns are missing.
  • There is no store connection and no scheduled sync: each update is export → compare → import.
  • Details: Update in the documentation.

What is free

The comparison on screen and its report are always free. The update files are free while they change at most 50 products in total. An update of more products is one of the 3 results of a CatalogDock Pass ($19, one-time, 30 days): a pass is not a subscription, and each larger update with new changes is a new result. See Pricing. The demo pair is also in the CSV templates.
